ชุมชนชาติพันธุ์ลุ่มน้ำสาละวิน คึกคัก จัดงานวันหยุดเขื่อนโลก 14 มีนาคม Ethnic Communities of the Salween River Basin Celebrate International Day of Actions for Rivers

เมื่อวันที่ 14 มีนาคม 2567 เครือข่ายชุมชนตลอดลุ่มน้ำสาละวิน ในพม่าและบนพรมแดนไทยพม่า รวมตัวในหลายจุดเพื่อจัดงานเนื่องในวันหยุดเขื่อนโลก

ที่หาดทราย “ซูแมท่า” ฝั่งรัฐกะเหรี่ยง ตรงข้ามบ้านสบเมย อ.สบเมย จ.แม่ฮ่องสอน ประชาชนกว่า 300 คนร่วมกันแสดงเจตนารมณ์ปกป้องแม่น้ำสาวินให้ไหลอย่างอิสระ เพื่อสิทธิของแม่น้ำและธรรมชาติ และเรียกร้องสิทธิของชนเผ่าพื้นเมืองในการร่วมจัดการทรัพยากรลุ่มน้ำอย่างยั่งยืนและเป็นธรรม

ในรัฐฉาน ที่ริมแม่น้ำป๋าง ซึ่งเป็นลำน้ำสาขาหลักสายหนึ่งของแม่น้ำสาละวิน ประชาชนกว่า 200 คน ร่วมจัดกิจกรรมตามวัฒนธรรมของชาติพันธุ์ต่างๆ และประกาศจุดยืนปกป้องแม่น้ำเพื่ออนาคตของคนรุ่นต่อไป   ตลอดลำน้ำสาละวินในพม่า มีการเสนอให้ก่อสร้างเขื่อนอย่างน้อย 7 โครงการ ซึ่งจะส่งผลกระทบร้ายแรงต่อระบบนิเวศที่สำคัญที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของโลก

Ethnic Communities of the Salween River Basin Celebrate International Day of Actions for Rivers

On March 14, 2024, communities along the Salween River in Myanmar and along the Thai–Myanmar border gathered at multiple locations to mark the International Day of Actions for Rivers.

At a sandy beach on the Karen State’s Salween Peace Park, opposite to Ban Sobmoei, Mae Hong Son Province, over 300 people united to demonstrate their determination to keep the Salween River flowing freely—for the rights of the river and nature—and to demand that indigenous peoples hold a role in the sustainable and equitable management of the river basin’s resources.

In Shan State, along the Pang River—one of the major tributaries of the Salween River—more than 200 people participated in cultural activities representing various ethnic groups and declared their stance to protect the river for future generations.

Throughout Myanmar’s stretch of the Salween River, proposals have been put forward for at least seven dam projects, which would severely impact one of the world’s most important ecosystems.
